Backpacking the Superstitions, Day 2
Camp in the morning
Today we left our camp setup and tidy and embarked on a 10+ mile hike around Bluff Spring Mountain.
Weather was perfect again and we were happy we did the loop counter-clockwise. I think the best views are on the south and west side of the mountain.
Weaver’s Needle and saguaro
We were greeted early with amazing views of Weaver’s Needle, a striking landmark that we passed near but didn’t really threaten. Would love to explore that area more in the future.
Desert globe mallow
We found some pretty desert globe mallows in bloom.
Chris posing
I carried just my backpack lid which converts to a fanny pack. Julie has a detachable daypack she carried, though at times she wished she had just brought her full pack. We carried the jetboil and water for hot lunch.
Hillside full of saguaro
The return on the north side was varied though not as striking as the other half. Some amazing fields of saguaros on south facing hillsides.
We are settled in at camp and will hike out early tomorrow to return to some work, showers, and some laundry.
